1. NITI Aayog Panel to Improve Urban Planning Education.



NITI Aayog has formed a 14-member advisory committee to initiate reforms in the urban planning education system. The panel will be chaired by NITI Aayog Vice President Rajiv Kumar. The committee members include Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog and Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

Role of Committee:

  •  The committee will examine the urban planning education system in India and examine the availability, demand and supply of qualified urban planners in India.
  •  This committee will examine the current system in terms of multi-disciplinary, syllabus and other related issues at the level of graduates and undertake post-graduation against the challenges of rapid urbanization.


2.  PM Modi inaugurates fourth edition of India Energy Forum.



               PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 4th India Energy Forum organized by CERAWeek organized by HIS Markit. The theme of this edition is "India's Energy Changes in the Future World". India is the third largest and fastest growing aviation market in terms of domestic aviation and Indian carriers are projected to increase their fleet size from 600 to 1200 to 2024.

          According to the PM, India's energy plan aims to ensure energy justice while fully complying with India's global commitments for sustainable development.


3. Indian Army celebrates 74th Infantry Day in Jammu and Kashmir.



               Every year on 27th of October, Jammu and Kashmir is celebrated as Infantry Day by the Indian Army (it is known by the nickname Chinar Corps). The Chinar Corps celebrated the 74th Infantry Day on 27 October 2020, in 1947, in Jammu and Kashmir, to honor the supreme sacrifice of gallant soldiers while fighting the Pakistani invaders.


4. Swachh Bharat Award 2020 announced.



              Union Water Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister of State for Water, Ratan Lal Kataria awarded the Swachh Bharat 2020 Awards for best performance to various categories / states, districts, blocks, GPs. The Ministry of Water Power is celebrating Swachh Bharat Day on 2 October 2020 to mark six years of the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).

       

5. PM Modi dedicates Atal tunnel to the nation.



              The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, dedicated the Atal tunnel to the nation on 3 October 2020. In December 2019, the government has decided to name the Rohtang tunnel as Atal tunnel in honor of former Prime Minister and scholar Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On 3 June 2000, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government decided to construct a strategic tunnel under the Rohtang Pass and on 26 May 2002 the foundation stone for the access road to the south portal of the tunnel was laid.

        About Atal Tunnel:

  • The Atal Tunnel is the world's longest highway tunnel 10,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL).
  • The tunnel is named after former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • The Atal tunnel has been constructed by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) on the Leh-Manali highway in Himachal Pradesh, under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas.
  • The tunnel has a total length of 9.02 km and an elevation of 3,100 meters (10,171 ft).
  • The total cost of completion of the project is about Rs. 3200 crores.
